Is West Coast Swing for me?
West Coast Swing is a partner dance that branched out of Lindy Hop, borrowed from other dances, and is currently known for its smooth movement, stretchy look and improvisational focus.
We dance to a wide variety of music: classic and contemporary Pop, R&B, Funk, Blues, Hip Hop and more. The dance will look stylistically different based on who is dancing it and what movement the music inspires.
You can choose to Lead or Follow, and many learn both! In either role, you will have the opportunity to authentically express yourself.
You don’t have to be athletic or agile to have fun in this dance. All ages are welcome, all genders are welcome, all body shapes are welcome.
Most of us are just humans who enjoy moving and grooving to the music, like to share this joy with other humans of similar affinity, and don’t take ourselves too seriously (expect to hear giggles on the dance floor). Introverts are welcome.
If you’ve never before experienced Easter Swing, join us in the Grand Ballroom all evening to watch dance routines and social dance!*
*Offer valid for dancers who are new to West Coast Swing, have never before attended Easter Swing, and who complete the Beginner Bootcamp.
Come for the lesson,
stay for the social dancing!
Pro Tips
-
Please allow plenty of time to park, locate the ballroom, and check in at Beginner Bootcamp Registration. We recommend 30 min.
The lesson WILL start at the scheduled time and we aim to minimize disruption from late arrivals. Thank you for your cooperation.
-
Event parking is provided by the hotel free of charge.
-
But invite your friends! We usually rotate between various partners during the class. However, if you wish to stick together with one person for any reason, you are welcome to do so.
You may choose to lead or follow, regardless of your gender, whichever role you prefer.
-
Make sure your shirt allows you to raise your arms above your head.
Pants are recommended. Comfy and/or stretchy jeans, yoga pants, trousers, etc. are all great options.
-
You will be doing a lot of walking. Flats are common. If you prefer heels, choose a smaller heel.
You should be able to pivot on hardwood floors without putting strain on the joints. Suede or leather soles are best; avoid rubber soles. If you can do the twist on your kitchen floor without squeaking or sticking, they will probably be OK.
An affordable, short term option can be DanceSocks that go over your sneakers.
-
Water stations will be available in all ballrooms, but feel free to bring your water bottle, Gatorade, etc. if you like.
Snacks are good too.
-
You will be in a shared space with hundreds of people. Many have allergies.
Please do not bring peanuts into the ballroom.
Please refrain from wearing strong perfume/cologne.
The hotel is dog-friendly. If you touched animals, please wash your hands before dancing with others.
-
You may want to freshen up before the social dancing, or if you plan to stay for the show.
Some attendees will dress up a bit fancier for the shows Saturday evening. And others will keep it casual. Pick what suits you best.
-
If you plan to stay for the Evening Show bring hearing protection, just in case. Even though our team monitors the volume, the ballroom may get a bit loud during the show.
-
We have a very active group set up to help everyone find rides, hotel room mates, and strictly competition partners!
